The only thing that's rising is the bread

Warburtons wanted a system which could monitor and report on the energy used within their bakeries, using a program from Manchester-based company, Enviros.

Initially, we designed a fully browseable, online system for monitoring a single bakery's energy use. We then developed a system that could monitor a number of venues. This included a web-enabled power server that was totally upgradable, and could not only measure energy use, but also power quality and power factor correction.

Electricity, gas and water could now all be monitored for one site, with the reports going to a central server each week. This was achieved by collating all the information into a dedicated spreadsheet, which was engineered by TEST and then emailed as a report to each venue.

Warburtons liked the system so much they rolled it out to more than 15 sites within three years. The system is now the largest of its kind currently in use across the UK.

The data helps Warburtons to determine its potential energy savings. The company's target was to retain 3% of its energy, however the TEST system helped them to achieve 5%, and provided Warburtons with a return on investment within two years.

TEST continually checks the maintenance of the equipment, through both onsite inspections every six months, and in real-time using an online tool.
